Starting in January 2019 I am writing stories which I am sending to family and friends that are inspired by one of many in my vast collection of postcards.  I, like so many others, had good intentions on sending out postcards from my various travels. However, most of the time they never get sent.  So, I am sending out post cards with a link to a story inspired by the postcard.  The story may be about my travels or about the subject of the postcard or just some random thoughts.  Whatever I'm inspired to write. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I am enjoying writing them.

If you want one of my postcards - send me a message and who knows!  You might end up getting one too!

Love from Texas

I have been to Texas five times in my life.  But, because Texas is huge so I’ve really only seen parts.  Everyone says go to Austin!  Go to San Antonio.  Nope, I’ve been to Padre Island (college spring break), Dallas twice (Work Conferences), Houston (visiting friends Clay and Amanda) and driving through the top bit. I’m sure there is a name for that part of Texas but I have no idea what it’s called.

Indian Paintbrush and Lupine

For a few summers I was fortunate to perform and work at the Colorado Renaissance Festival. The great thing about this was that I worked on the weekends and could travel and sightsee during the week. I really enjoyed being a performer. But the only way I could really make working at the festival possible was taking on the role of managing the workers at the front gate, similar to what I did at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. So, I did a little managing, a little storytelling and a lot of driving!

Cows

Growing up we counted cows on our road trips. There were just a few basic rules. You could count no more than 10 at one time in any one area (there were debates on fences and if neighboring pastures could be counted as one.) If you passed a cemetery you had to “bury” all your cows and start over at zero in your counting. If you got exactly 100 you had to go back to zero - oh, wait. I think that was a card game. So, everyone in the car would get divided into two teams. Those on the right side and those on the left. Sometimes the driver (my dad) would say they get all the cows in the middle of the road. Ha ha.
